Blade release may be delayed, launch date pushed back
Three years after Marvel Studios announced Blade at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, cameras were finally ready to roll on the Mahershala Ali-led film.
But when Blade director Bassam Tariq resigned from the MCU project just a week before filming, it all came to a sudden and sudden halt.
While Tariq’s departure raised many questions regarding production, one of the biggest questions was whether the MCU film would release on November 3, 2023.
While nothing has been officially confirmed by Marvel yet, new reports suggest that fans of this long-awaited project will have to wait a bit longer.
Marvel Studios Reportedly Delayed Blade Start Date 2023
In response to insider Jeff Snyder’s report that Blade’s start date has been extended to November, My Cosmic Circus’ Lizzie Hill posted that she heard January 2023 is the new target:
“Heard January as I told yesterday”
@bigscreenleaks posted a similar report, saying the Blade’s launch date “has been pushed back to at least early 2023:”
“I hear that Blade’s start date was pushed back to at least early 2023. They are looking for a director and hopefully the project will restart soon.”
As further proof, Reddit user u/JediButterfly shared a Blade Casting call stating that applications are no longer being accepted as production dates have been pushed to the spring of 2023.
The Fate of Blades 2023 Release
It’s worth noting that the loss of the Director of Blades is far from its only issue.
Other rumors and reports have claimed that Blade’s Mahershala Ali is “disappointed” and that the film’s script was problematic with minimal action sequences.
While Marvel has already handed the script to Doctor Moon Knight and X-Men ’97’s Beau Demaio to Doctor, that process — as well as finding a replacement director — could take some time.
Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the production date of the Blade has been pushed.
The question now is whether it will maintain this new, yet unofficial, 2023 start position and how this change will affect Marvel Studios’ current release schedule.
Before the shake-up, Blade was set to follow The Marvels, which is set to debut in July and precedes May 2024’s Captain America: New World Order.
For the time being, a delay in the November 3 release of The Marvels to Blade is a likely possibility, given how Marvel Studios would like a late 2023 release.
Fans are likely to hear about Blade’s official delay in the coming days, as well as Marvel Studios’ revised release schedule.
Blade is currently set for release on November 3, 2023.
