Disney Confirms Olivia Colman’s Marvel Character Has Sneaky Captain America Ties
Covert Assault made a splash during this year’s D23 Expo. The Samuel L Jackson-led Marvel series has finally released its first official trailer, giving a first look at MCU newcomers like Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman.
In the trailer, Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman can be seen telling Nick Fury that she is not ready for this upcoming battle with the Skrulls. Although the conversation was brief, the pair seem to have a close relationship with each other, indicating that the Marvel character of Coleman could become a valuable ally.
Now, new details have emerged about the actress’s MCU role, and this could prove a theory that she’s on Fury’s good side.
Disney unveils Olivia Colman’s Secret Assault character
Disney confirmed via an official that Olivia Colman will be playing Special Agent Sonya Falsworth in Secret Assault.
This confirmation links Coleman’s character to James Montgomery Falsworth, one of the awesome commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger.
In the 2011 Marvel film, the character was portrayed by JJ Field.
The news also confirmed a previous rumor that linked Coleman’s Covert Assault character to a member of the Howling Commandos, as well as speculation that she was engaged to a version of the Union Jack. In the comics, the Union Jack was heavily involved in the fight against the Skrulls.

Given this connection, it is also reasonable to assume that Coleman’s Sonya Falsworth will also be involved in action sequences for the Disney+ series, thus cementing her place as one of Nick Fury’s trusted allies.
In addition, Coleman’s relationship with James Falsworth may also explain why Fury decided to turn to him for advice on the series.
At some point in the covert attack, it is possible that Fury’s back is against the wall, and his other allies such as Maria Hill and Talos are either captured or thrown off the grid. As a result, Fury will seek Sonya’s help, leading to the scene in the trailer where they talk about the Skrulls.
While it is unknown whether Sonya Falsworth is a Skrull in the series, there is a chance that she could become one of the show’s few human characters. Doing so allows the character to appear in future MCU Earth-based projects, such as Thunderbolts and Captain America: New World Order.
Secret Assault will premiere on Disney+ in Spring 2023.
